Welcome to our new GP Partners

Dr Arika Singh and Dr Jibola Omogbemi both started as GP Partners at The Headlands in Kettering on the same day. They are each experienced doctors and, for both, it is their first Partnership position in the ‘friendly’ practice.

Both have extensive experience in different healthcare settings, with Dr Singh experienced in diabetes care while Dr Omogbemi has interests in minor surgery, women’s health and research.

He said: 'I qualified in Nigeria and worked in Primary healthcare, gynaecology, paediatrics and accident and emergency in a Public hospital before coming to the UK where I also had added work experiences before training as a GP some years ago and becoming a General practitioner '.

‘I really liked the idea of General Practice as I have a wide range of experience and thought that being a GP would be a good way of bringing all those skills together. I did my GP training in the North and then moved to Northamptonshire.  I did local work, which gave me a good understanding of how different practices work and I knew I wanted to become a Partner.

‘Luckily I found out that Lakeside was recruiting as I wanted to join a large Partnership even though we are a small team at Headlands. As Arika and I joined on the same day we compare notes and ask each other how things are going. I have felt very welcomed and we have a good team of five partners here.’

Dr Singh moved from hospital work to General Practice as she wanted to provide greater continuity of care and see a variety of patients.

She said: ‘I qualified as a GP in 2009 and my first placement was at Hereward Practice pre-Lakeside with Dr Clive Cole, who was my trainer. I really liked the variety of General Practice as you can get anything and everything coming through the door and I especially love seeing children.

‘Since qualifying I have worked in a variety of roles, including out-of-hours services and as a locum and salaried GP. I learned a lot and have spent time looking for the right Partnership and right team. That is when I bumped into Lakeside! I like the fact there is strength in numbers and a central team that focuses on things like finance leaving GPs to focus on medical matters.

In one of my previous roles I was diabetes clinical lead and I really enjoyed it so I want to bring that to Headlands and I would also like to get into teaching and education for our medical students.

‘I like Headlands because everyone is so welcoming and friendly and the patients are lovely. It is really nice joining at the same time as Dr Omogbemi as we keep checks on each other and get on well. It was absolutely the right decision to come to the Headlands. Everyone has such a wealth of experience and have been so welcoming. I felt really supported.’
