Headlands HCA limbers up for fundraising dance

Sam Rumney, a healthcare assistant from Headlands Surgery is taking part in a dance show to raise funds for a local hospital in memory of a local boy.

The ‘Strictly for Sebastian’ event was originally to raise funds for treatment for six-year-old Sebastian Nunney, who sadly passed away recently. His parents wanted the event on 2 March at Wicksteed Park to still go ahead and so Sam, and her dance partner Karl Walker are among the dozens of couples rehearsing with the help of MaSh Dance.

Sam said: ‘One of my close friends had connections to Sebastian and she shared the event was happening and that they needed people to apply. I thought why not, happy to give up a few hours a week to raise money. Plus I do love watching Strictly on the BBC!

‘We are rehearsing three times a week for two hours each time and, although there have been a few minor injuries along the way the experience is great. I have met lots of like-minded people and we are all helping each other out.  We are all doing the same Waltz and Cha Cha Cha, but our show dances are all individual and top secret, but the whole event will be very glitzy and sparkly!

‘At the last count over £10,000 has been raised so far as each team has a target of £1,500 per couple. Fundraising has been going well - but I would love to get to the target figure and I also had a cake sale too to raise more cash.

‘Sebastian’s family have decided to donate the money raised to the children's department at Northampton General Hospital after Sebastian’s sad passing. He spent a lot of time there, and the money is to be used towards an outdoor play area for the children on the wards, so it will help other families going through tough times.’
